Caring for The Skin with Vitamin C

Vitamins are essential in keeping the skin healthy. In fact, there are a lot of beauty and skin care products in the market that use these natural vitamins and minerals as their ingredients. Vitamin C, is said to be one of the vitamins that is very beneficial in helping the skin regenerate.

In order to be used on the skin, Vitamin C is transformed to L-ascorbic acid. This form, however, is pretty unstable and is in fact so hard to be used in cosmetics. This is perhaps the reason why there is only a few cosmetic products that carry Vitamin C when compared to other vitamins like A and E. Still, chemists are trying to find ways as this form is found to stimulate collagen synthesis on the skin. Unlike other vitamins, it is also able stay in the skin for as long as three days as well as prevents a reaction called UV immunosuppression, often seen in 90 percent of cancer patients in the country.

In looking for Vitamin C in products, make sure that it contains a stable L-ascorbic form and a low pH level. Highly concentrated products are also recommended. Remember that just because a product advertises Vitamin C on it front level, it does not mean that it contains the kind or the form (L-ascorbic acid) that your skin can use.

Vitamin C as shield from the sun

Vitamin C, as mentioned above, serves as a good shield from the sun, which harms the skin by drying it up and causing wrinkles and lines to show up. Vitamin C does this by neutralizing the reactive oxygen or free radicals, which is often caused by the interaction of sunlight, skin tissues and of course the cell membrane. But though it revents the absorption of light, it should not be used to replace sunscreen. Skin care experts still recommend the use of sunscreen for maximum sun protection. Still, vitamin C can be combined with sunscreens for more coverage and longer protection because once this gets into the skin, it cannot be easily washed or rubbed off.

Vitamin C as an anti-oxidant

Vitamin C is known to play a crucial role in the oxidation process. It prevents free radicals from destroying the skin. Free radicals are caused by ultraviolet rays from the sun and its reaction with oxygen.

Vitamin C stimulates Collagen

The vitamin helps synthesize collagen, a component of the skin that is essential in slowing down the aging process of the skin. L-ascorbic acid signals the collagen genes to begin creating new collagen

Can Glycolic Acid Help Your Acne-Is It Really Helpful

Acne is a skin problem where the pores get blocked and sometimes inflamed and pimples occur. Glycolic acid is often recommended for acne problems but is it really very helpful?

The oils in your skin can clog up the pores resulting in acne so to treat this condition properly you need to reduce the oil production. You also need to deal with any bacterial infection that has occurred within the skin and increase skin cell turnover.

You can help to reduce the oil on your skin by using oil free skin care products. You can use a product like Benzoyl peroxide to fight the infection as it has antibacterial agents. To increase skin cell turnover you can use glycolic acid as it helps to remove the dead skin of the top layer allowing for the growth of new skin cells.

Concentrated glycolic acid is actually used by many industries as a rust removal agent so you can see how it would be useful as a skin exfoliant. The strength of the acid that you would apply to your skin is much less than the concentrated amount, usually under 10%. However, because of its strength some doctors are concerned about patients self treating with glycolic acid.

There are some types of acne that should not be treated with an exfoliating treatment. Acne Rosacea for example, is actually not acne even though its name suggests it is, this condition will not respond well to exfoliation treatment.

If you suffer with pustules you should also avoid exfoliation as it can open up the pustules and spread the infection over the skin. By spreading the infection you will spread the acne and will soon have more pimples breaking out.

You can spend your life treating your acne and you may be successful in reducing it for a while but new pimples will keep on appearing. It is better to treat your acne holistically so you can get rid of it altogether. You need to start by trying to find the cause of your acne so you can avoid it.

Take a look at any skin care products that you currently use as well as hair products. Skin care products and hair products are a common cause of acne if your skin reacts to them. Cosmetics can also cause acne, particularly if makeup is not washed off properly at the end of the day.

An unhealthy diet is another cause of acne. Foods that are high in sugar or high in saturated fats can contribute to the condition, so changing your diet to one that includes lots of fruit and vegetables should effectively reduce your acne. Also make sure that you are drinking lots of water each day to flush any toxins out of your body and also to keep your skin hydrated.

Have a good skin care routine by cleansing, toning and moisturising your skin daily. Always do this at night to wash off any makeup as well as washing off any dirt and sweat that has built up during the day.

If you are considering using a glycolic acid acne cure then seek advice from your doctor or a dermatologist first. Your doctor will let you know if he thinks this type of treatment would be beneficial.

Birthmark Laser Treatment-Diffrent Lasers For Your Diffrent Birthmarks

Birthmark laser treatment is quite the viable option to reduce the appearance of or eliminate birthmarks all together. The type of laser treatment to be used for your birthmark depends on the type of birthmark you have. There are a few types we will outline here.

If your birthmark is a pigmented brown or tan birthmark then a laser called the Q-switched laser will lighten the birthmark nicely. If your birthmark is a vascular birthmark then a pulse-dye laser will burn off the blood vessels causing the birthmarks. Green colored lasers are used more and more to reduce the redness that goes along with the birthmarks. Opposing colors have a greater success rate in removing certain birthmark colors.

There is no guarantee that the birthmark will completely disappear so do not get your hopes up. Birthmark laser treatment can greatly reduce the color of the birthmarks and lighten them considerably but they may never be gone completely. Who knows, a little improvement may go a long way to making you feel better about yourself. Maybe getting your birthmark lightened just a little may make it easier to cover up with makeup before you go out on the town.

The area to be treated is cleansed with a mild soap and water, rinsed, and dried thoroughly. Then a topical anesthetic cream is applied to the area. When the area is comfortably numb then the laser is placed over the area to be treated and the laser light is pulsed rapidly over the whole area in a grid pattern.

Depending on the depth of color of the birthmark, more than one treatment may be required to significantly lighten or get rid of the birthmark. Small children require a general anesthetic for the laser treatments due to the fact that they may have a difficult time settling down and sitting still for the entire procedure.

Port wine stains can be lightened any where from 50 to 90 percent during and after laser treatment with some patients experiencing complete removal of their birthmark. Some birthmarks like hemagiomas cannot be treated with lasers except decrease their growth. Surgery is needed to control the bleeding that is possible with hemangiomas, especially the cavernous hemangiomas

Due to advancements in laser therapy, there is no reason to continue being embarrassed about your birthmark. Most birthmarks are benign, which means that they do not cause any other health problems. Talk at length, though, with your doctor if you are considering laser treatment for the removal.

If there is no medical reason for the removal then your insurance company will most likely tell you you are on your own when paying for the bill. They will not cover cosmetic procedures and birthmark laser removal is just that, cosmetic. So, unless you have a cavernous vascular hemangioma and need surgery to correct it, then be prepared to foot the bill yourself or just learn to live with the birthmark you were born with. Maybe it is such that you are one of God's special children and he marked you so he could find you easier.

Anti-Aging Skin Care, What You Should Know

Who would want to grow old?
Who would want to look old?

If only somebody knew the secret to the fountain of youth, that somebody would have riches beyond imagination. And this is not a gross exaggeration.

Any business, product or service that deals with anti-aging is sure to succeed. In fact, one of the fastest growing industry in the country today is the cosmetic industry which partly deals with helping people stay young and look young through augmentation, face lifts and surgeries. People are so ready to spend their hard-earned money on these procedures, something that they would not have done on any other kind of procedures.

Perhaps, one cannot blame these people from wanting to look young. With society's emphasis on beauty and youth, more and more people are associating success and the happy life with a supple youthful skin. Besides, women are prettier are more likely to go up the corporate ladder.

Causes of Aging

But despite all that has been discovered to help curb the aging process, no procedure or product has ever been discovered that is capable of completely stopping the aging process. This is not possible. The only thing that most procedures can do is to slow down the process or lessen the visible signs of aging.

The aging of the skin is actually caused by too much exposure to the sun as well as the loss of hormones such as testosterone and estrogen. These two processes lead to the oxidation of collagen and the elastin fibers of the skin. The loss of these two substances in the skin will result to dimples on the skin and of course the sagging.

Prevention the natural way

There are of course natural ways that you can do to help prevent aging. One of which is the clichd combo of eating well and physical activity. However often you cringe at hearing this advice will not change the fact that these two are the primary things that can help you save those skins from sagging.

Eating fruits and vegetables especially those that are rich in Vitamin C and D will help in keeping the skin supple and moisturized. Foods with anti-oxidants are also helpful as this directly prevents oxidation.

Physical activity, on the other hand, helps by toning the muscles and keeping blood circulation going. This means that nutrients and minerals are distributed throughout the body.

Acupuncture Face Lift May Be Just The Thing

Today, we are more aware than ever before of the possible side effects of some of the products and procedures we use to achieve a more youthful look. More people are turning away from such potentially dangerous cosmetic procedures such as a face lift and /or Botox. Today they are looking for more natural treatment and at the top of that list is acupuncture face lift procedures.

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to help cure and prevent a multitude of illnesses and diseases. Now, people are realizing what it can do to help slow down the appearance of aging as well.

Along with a younger looking appearance acupuncture face lift incorporates the Chinese philosophy of everything starting with internal health. For example, if you really want to look good you have to maintain the health and vitality of your body starting from the inside. Eat right, drink plenty of water, get enough rest, etc.

You also want to be careful about the chemicals you ingest. Keeping the intake of chemicals, whether they be additives, prescription medication or just chemicals in your personal care products, to a minimum.

Keeping your insides healthy will allow your outside to look better too. That is the basic idea behind acupuncture.

Using acupuncture to restore and rejuvenate your appearance can help you regain the vibrancy you may have lost. You will see improvement in the overall firmness of your skin along with a lessening of the appearance of wrinkles and lines.

Not only that but many people have reported an overall increase in their health and vitality. They reported getting better sleep and higher energy levels.

Of course, the results you get won't be nearly as dramatic or extensive as what you would get if you actually underwent a plastic surgery procedure, so please don't expect that. You will also need to undergo several procedures before you start to get the whole benefit.

It's important that you understand all the pros and cons before you decide to go this route. If you have unrealistic expectations you will only be disappointed. You can get an improvement using this non invasive procedure, but it will not happen right away.

Of course, when you compare the results of this non invasive procedure to the long recovery time and big expense of the more invasive techniques it is plain to see that his method will give you a big bang for your buck.

The difference in the amount of recovery time needed is also significant. While traditional plastic surgeries can take a month or more before healing is complete, you will have no healing time needed for an acupuncture procedure.

And while recovering from plastic surgery can be quite painful, there is no pain associated with acupuncture.

This method works primarily by increasing circulation and blood flow to the face which then enhances the growth of new, firmer skin.

If you think acupuncture face lift is something you would like to learn more about, find a licensed practitioner in your area and set up an appointment. She can give you more precise information so you can determine the best option for you.

Acne Skin Care Products That Dont Damage Your Skin

When people get acne they immediately go out to find an acne skin care product to treat their acne. Unfortunately some acne skin care products can actually damage your skin more with continued long term use. It is best to take steps to try and avoid acne rather than just treat it with skin care products when it appears.

I'm sure you've heard the phrase 'prevention is the best medicine'; well this phrase is true for acne. Why just treat the symptoms if you can prevent it from happening altogether. The first step is to identify what is causing your pimples.

Some acne causes are:

* Stress
* Certain foods
* Some steroid drugs
* Progesterone only contraceptive pill
* Some cosmetic products
* Skin care routines.

If you can pinpoint any of these as the cause of your acne then you may be able to make some changes to avoid that trigger. Avoiding the trigger can reduce your acne or even stop it completely.

If you can't find the cause of your acne then you will want to find a good acne skin care product to help with the symptoms. Firstly, make sure you have a good skin care routine. Cleanse, tone and moisturise your skin daily and if you wear makeup make sure that you cleanse your face at night to wash the makeup off. Acne is caused by pores becoming clogged and blocked and makeup that isn't removed can be a big cause. Try using oil free skin care products as oily skin is more prone to acne.

Even though you don't want excessive oily skin so it is good to use oil free skin care products, your skin does need some oil so it doesn't become overly dry and sensitive. Some cleansers actually strip the skin of their natural oils so you don't want one of these either. You can get some good oil free skin care products that still keep the natural oils in your skin.

As well as looking for good skin care products to treat your acne you should also look at your diet. Eating a healthy diet will go a long way to getting rid of acne. Eating a good variety of fruit and vegetables will do wonders for your skin. Remember the old saying 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away'; well it can also help with acne. Eating an apple a day will really benefit your skin and as well as eating apples you can also use them as a face mask. Just pop an apple in the blender and blend until it becomes a pulp and then apply it to your face. Wash it off 20 minutes later and you should see an immediate improvement in the appearance of your pimples.

Also make sure that you are getting all the required vitamins and minerals in your diet. Lacking in vitamins can contribute to acne. You should also be drinking at least six to eight glasses of water a day to keep your skin moist and hydrated and also to flush out any toxins that can build up in your system and contribute to acne.

Taking care of your health and your skin is the best solution for preventing or treating acne. Using a good, gentle skin care product will also help to reduce acne spots.

Acne Scars – Treatments and Natural Home Remedies

Stop suffering! Whether your acne scars are minor or deeply pitted you have several options for acne scars treatments that you can use. They range from all natural home remedies to fairly complex and expensive procedures performed by your doctor. The number of scars you have, the time you want to invest in your treatments as well as the cost of treatment and severity of the scars themselves will determine which option(s) are best for you.

For most people, they should consider waiting to get their scars removed until their acne is well controlled. There is no sense in spending time and money removing your scars if you're going to just get more of them. It's also wise to try and find relief using the simplest, most natural, and inexpensive methods first and only try the more expensive methods if you are unable to get the results you really want using these more natural options.

Here are some of the options for clearing up your acne scars that you can investigate so that you can find just the right option for you and your lifestyle:

1. Many natural remedies have been shown to work very well for many people. Using compresses made of olive oil, vitamin E, lemon juice, and even urine have been touted by some to be extremely effective in reducing the appearance of scars. These forms of all natural remedies do work better on lighter scars rather than the deeply pitted scars.

2. For people who have more, or deeper, scarring you may need to consider some more advanced, invasive procedures such as laser, IPL, or chemical peels. These all work in slightly different ways but the basic idea is to remove the top layer, or top several layers, of skin and allowing new unblemished skin to form. Many of these procedures will actually help speed up new skin growth by stimulating the elastin and collagen production in the skin.

For most of these procedures you will need to see your doctor, but for the IPL treatment it can be done by a trained practitioner which can save a little money. Most of these procedures will have a short healing time, usually just a few days, but it will take longer if the scars are more frequent or deeper and pitted.

Each one of these procedures has it's own price schedule which can vary significantly from one to another so when you talk to your doctor about the different processes you want to make sure to find out how much per treatment and how many treatments you'll likely need.

When it comes to finding the best possible acne scars treatments for you, your skin and your budget remember that you have a lot of choices. You will need to be willing to invest a little time to adequately research the pros and cons of each type of treatment to determine which type is the best option for you. Just don't give up and think you have to settle for blemished skin… you don't. There is hope.

Acne Scar Reduction

Suffering from moderate to severe acne is bad enough, having to deal with the unsightly aftermath just makes it worse. If you have suffered from acne and now find yourself with unsightly scars as a reminder, you'll be pleased to know that there are some things that can be done to reverse some of the damage. There are acne scar reduction techniques that may be able to help you.

When your skin gets inflamed from a breakout it can result in an infection which can lead to loss of elastin and collagen, and that can lead to skin cell damage. The body will attempt to repair the damaged skin by using a connective tissue to mend the wound. This connective tissue is the scar.

Of course, prevention is always the best remedy. If you can stop your acne outbreak in it's early stages you'll go a long way to preventing scarring. You don't have to wait until pimples are fully formed before you start to treat your outbreak. Many people believe in this misconception and feel like they need to give the pimple time to grow so that it will expel the toxins itself.

If you follow this belief you are actually more likely to get scars than if you treated the outbreak and prevented the pimples from getting so advanced. If you already have scars your dermatologist can recommend the appropriate treatment options. If at all possible you should see your doctor since acne sufferers may have sensitive skin and may have reactions to some do it yourself acne remedies.

Here is a list of some of the most common techniques used to diminish scars, of course scars will fade on their own over time but if you want to speed up the process these things may help. Your doctor will tell you which is the best option for you based on the severity of the scar and your skin type:

1. Laser therapy. This technique can help clear up scars by killing bacteria and increase oxygen to the damaged skin. Lasers can burn away any excess sebum which will reduce the thick texture of the scar and make it less noticeable.

2. Dermabrasion or microdermabrasion are both ways of surgically removing the outer layer of skin by scraping it off. The remaining skin is the 'new' skin that was underneath and it will be healthy unblemished skin.

3. Topical creams such as Retin A are used to help improve not only texture issues from scarring but also help reduce discoloration whether your skin has lightened or darkened. Retin A does have some potentially serious side effects, the most common one is an extreme sensitivity to sunlight.

4. Chemical skin peel is when chemicals are used to peel away the damaged top layer of skin. This method will usually take a fairly long recovery period of up to three weeks.

The effectiveness of any of these methods will depend to a large degree on the skin type of the patient as well as the size and severity of the scars. It's always best to talk to your doctor and find out what they recommend when it comes to acne scar reduction. You do have options and you can get rid of or at least lessen your unsightly acne scars.

Acne Facial Scars

If you've more or less outgrown your acne outbreaks and now you're looking for something to help you remove, or at least diminish, your unattractive acne facial scars there is good news. There are many things that may be able to help you. Everything from home remedies to creams, to chemicals and lasers that work by removing the top layers of skin. The trick is to find the method that will work best for you and also is the least expensive and invasive.

Here is a list of some of the most common options available to you. Many of them can be fairly expensive and while all of them have had some success none of them will work on every person every time. You will need to learn more about each technique so you can determine the best option for you and your situation:

1. Dermabrasion. This is more intense that mirco-dermabrasion which only sloughs off the top layer of skin. Dermabrasion will remove the top several layers of skin. This process will require a healing time of several weeks while the scabs from the procedure heal over with a new layer of undamaged skin. This procedure tends to work best on either light or dark skinned people. Someone with a more middle of the road skin tone might not get as good of results.

2. Laser treatment. This treatment option works in a similar fashion to dermabrasion, it removes the top damaged layers of skin which allows new growth, undamaged skin to replace the damaged skin. You can have an even texture and no discoloration following this treatment. Make sure you take time to talk to your doctor about this procedure. It does tend to be expensive and the healing process can be a little long. You may also need several treatments before you see the full effectiveness.

3. Chemical peel. This procedure involves your dermatologist applying a layer of acid to your skin. This chemical will slough off your top layer of skin. This procedure works best for skin that has only a little light scarring. Once the acid is removed you may experience some swelling and redness. Recovery time will vary depending on the amount of skin covered, but usually ranges from a day to a few weeks.

4. The last form of scar removal is augmentation. This procedure involves your doctor using collagen, or fat from another part of your body, to fill in your pitted scars. This procedure will require minimal recovery time, usually less than a day, and will give your skin a smoother more healthy appearance. The downside to this procedure is that it is a temporary fix. In the future if other forms of filler are discovered it may last longer but now with collagen it generally lasts around 6 months. While it does provide relief, you will need to have the procedure done over and over again to maintain the results.

When it comes to getting rid of, or at least diminishing, acne facial scars you have several options. Each has it's own pros and cons and cost considerations. You should take some time to investigate each method thoroughly before you make your decision.

What Does Abdominoplasty Or Tummy Tuck Cost?

What Does Abdominoplasty Or Tummy Tuck Cost?

What does getting an Abdominoplasty cost? Well, you have to take into consideration every aspect of the operation like specific fees for any labs or medical tests needed, the surgical center fees, the surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and the prescriptions you will need for afterward. The total of all these charges may well exceed $10,000 or more. You will want to make sure you find yourself a reputable surgeon if you are going to fork over that kind of money.

An abdominoplasty is also called a tummy tuck, for those of us who are not medical professionals, and is considered a cosmetic procedure by insurance companies. The objective of the procedure is to give you a nice, flat tummy by surgically removing excess fat and excess skin. The procedure is performed with the patient being put under a general anesthesia or sedation. The surgeon starts by making an incision just above the pubic area to repair the weak and ineffective lower abdominal muscles with what is referred to as a “baseball stitch”.

If there is a lot of excess skin that has to be stretched then the surgeon will cut out around the belly button and basically create a new one for you. If there is excess fat in the abdominal area then liposuction is performed to remove it then the incision is stitched closed. After the procedure you will be wrapped tightly with an ace wrap for support and a couple of drain tubes may have been placed in your incision to get rid of excess fluid that can build up and undermine the whole healing process.

Pain will be the biggest thing you will have to deal with for the first few days after the surgery and you will not be able to stand up straight for a while either. The surgeon will prescribe a narcotic pain reliever and an antibiotic to ward off infection. Do not forget to take the antibiotic and take all of it just as prescribed to be sure to keep infection at bay. Swelling will be present for at least a month and you will probably have to wear the ace wrap for the entire six weeks.

You can see why abdominoplasty cost is so high with everything that is done during the procedure. I mean, just the cost of the liposuction is anywhere from $1500 to $7500 depending on the extent of the excess fat that needs to be removed. You will have the look you want, though, when all is said and done. A flat, sexy tummy will make you feel so much better about yourself especially if you have worked hard to get the rest gone and are now at your ideal weight.

You should be sure to talk to the surgeon well before the procedure is scheduled and go over the different types of procedures that are available. You may not even need the entire abdominoplasty. You should discuss all your options so you can make the right decision based on your personal situation. Now when you take an abdominoplasty into consideration you will know what is all involved with abdominoplasty cost.
