Binge Eating Disorder-More Common Than You Think

It is often common for individuals to overeat on certain occasions, such as a special meal or during the holidays. But what you ate every meal in this fashion? That's what occurs for those who suffer from a binge eating disorder. To them, no special requirement is necessary in order to consume large quantities of food.

Approximately 2 million people from differing backgrounds have this condition. It does not single out certain groups according to ethnicity or age. In fact, an alarming fact is that it can even be found in children.

People with this type of affliction are often overweight, if not obese, although it is not a necessity in order to have the condition. They find it necessary to consume massive quantities of food at every sitting, even though they are not hungry. When a person begins to eat, it takes the stomach approximately 20 minutes to register what has been eaten and to notify the brain that it is full. That's why the recommendation is to wait this period of time between helpings to give the body time to signal that no more food is necessary.

But in these extreme cases, there is no cutoff, nor does the brain intervene. The individual is so adept to continuing in their eating that they pay no attention to the body or the brain as a way of stopping. And not only do they consume large quantities of food, but they do so very quickly, which further complicates the matter.

Many times, others may think that these individuals do not care or that they might even wish to be overweight, but that is simply not the case. In fact, research has shown that those who suffer from this condition do so because of a loss of control, which is why the condition has also been known as compulsive eating. The compulsion to continue eating is there, but not the will to stop.

There is any number of triggers that can set off one of these eating sessions. It can be anything ranging from guilt, to fear, anger, resentment, depression or even stress. When one of these times occurs, the binger is looking for solace in the food, even though they typically feel guilty and upset while they are doing it.

The treatment for a binge eating disorder is medication, psychotherapy, or even a carefully designed combination of both. Regardless of the course of treatment, the main goal is to determine what the triggering mechanisms are and to learn to effectively deal with them without the use of food.

Basic Skin Care Type That Everybody Should Know About

With the thousands of skin care products clogging the market, choosing one that is appropriate for you can be mighty frustrating. With different ingredients and formulas, one can never know for sure what kind of product your skin longs for.

Although one can never really know for sure unless you try the products yourself, one of the things that can narrow down the search for the perfect skin care product is the skin care type. The skin care type refers to the kind of skin that you are born with.

There are actually four main types, the oily skin, the dry skin, the normal skin and of course the combination type. This is basically determined by the degree of oiliness and dryness of your skin.

As you will notice, some people are more prone to oiliness than others. Pore sizes also come into the picture. In choosing products, you need to know your type is so that you can buy products that fit you.

To determine what type you are, wash your face first and then wait for about 30 minutes. This will give your skin enough time to become active. After the 30-minute period, get a tissue paper and dab you're the following areas of your face, the forehead, the nose, the chin and the cheeks. Oily areas will of course leave an oily mark on the tissue paper.

In normal skin type, there is a balance between water and oil. This is the type that is not dry but also not too oily. Often, the pore is medium in size. Lines and wrinkles are not as visible compared to people with dry skin. This is because this type of skin is more elastic and flexible.

Dry skin, on the other hand, will be course and rough. There will be mo moisture on the skin. This is the type of skin that is often prone to wrinkles and lines.

Oily skin is perhaps the most easily identified as it tends to shine. This is often a result of overactive oil glands, which produces too much. The danger of oily skin is the fact that it is more prone to acne and pimple problems.

This is because the oil can clog the pores and trap dead skin cells with hair follicles. Pores of oily skin are larger.

Combination skin, as the name implies, can have oily skin in some areas and dry skin on the other parts. Often, it is the T-zone, which is often oily. The T-zone consists of the forehead and the nose.

Arthritis Remedies For A Much More Active Life

Most, if not all, sufferers of arthritis have been exposed to the medical pills, ointments and treatments for arthritis. All of which might or might not have worked to varying degrees and so searching around for arthritis remedies that will bring some relief has become central to their lives, which is no surprise really because arthritis is a painful condition to try and live with.

As well as trying to live with the pain, there is the added knowledge that arthritis can ravage the body and leave the sufferer with debilitating and disabling joints that will severely affect a persons standard of living and ability to do everyday things.

Arthritis remedies then usually begin in how to effectively manage and eliminate the pain associated with this condition. One of the main methods of managing arthritis is to look at the diet of the sufferer. It is widely held that switching the diet from one that is high in animal proteins and processed foods to a diet that closely resembles a vegan diet is highly effective in treating arthritis. Foods such as red meats, rich dairy products such as cheeses and eggs etc. should be replaced by nuts, whole grains and fruits and vegetables.

Arthritis remedies that involve reducing the swelling that this disease causes in the joints of the sufferer are highly thought of and suggested. Ice packs applied to a newly affected joint is a proven method to ease pain and reduce painful swelling. However, what needs to be added to this point, is that icing a joint can often lead to the joint stiffening and becoming inflexible. It is for this reason that icing of an arthritic joint is usually suggested at the end of the day.

Alternatively, applying heat to the affected joint also works well as arthritis remedies go. Heat works the opposite way to ice and so the best time to often use a hot water bottle or heat pack is at the beginning of the day. The joints have been stiffened throughout the night and a warm heat pack can often loosen up the joints and give more flexibility for the rest of the day.

It might sound counter-intuitive, but exercise is also a proven remedy for arthritis. Of course depending on the level of mobility that a suffer might have, exercise in its full range might not be possible. However as soon as arthritis is diagnosed, exercise should be placed at the top of the list. Without exercise, the bones and joints quickly become stiff and immobile and any hope of reclaiming the flexibility needed to live an independent and active life might disappear for good.

Massaging the affected joints with soothing oils, incorporating exercise and adjusting the diet are all proven and worthwhile arthritis remedies that can effectively offer relief and a much better quality of life to anyone struggling with arthritis.

Anxiety Disorder

Everybody experiences some level of anxiety from time to time, and it is completely normal. It's your body's way of preparing for the fight-or-flight response. According to scientists, there was a time in our distant past when we were just as likely to be the prey as were to be the predator. When faced with dangerous situations, the body would release chemicals that would give us a burst of speed and strength as needed. The modern anxiety disorder has its roots in this ancient struggle.

While such a response was necessary early in our development, the truth is that we are not often chased by cave bear or saber-toothed cats anymore. Yes, we can face situations where our life is in danger; the fight-or-flight response makes perfect sense under such conditions. However, we can still get them same response when faced with things that won't harm us at all, and that's what anxiety is.

Most people will experience anxiety when flying for the first time, speaking publicly or while proposing marriage. Again, being anxious in these situations is normal. People with an anxiety disorder go much further. They not only get anxious before events like those mentioned, but they can also get anxious about things that may never even happen. For example, if they are out for a walk, they may worry about getting hit by a car, even though the streets are empty. That may sound extreme to most people, but anyone that suffers from the condition can relate to such a situation.

The symptoms of an anxiety disorder are quite varied, and range in their intensity. Here are a few of the more typical symptoms: shortness of breath, heart palpitations, fatigue, headaches, stomach pain, nausea and pain in the chest, sweating, and feeling shaky. Those symptoms can also be signs of other problems, and that's one reason why a lot of people don't know they have anxiety. For example, people may think they ate some bad food or have heartburn, when in reality it's anxiety.

Anxiety is usually treated with medication, therapy, or both. People with mild anxiety may not need any medication at all if they are able to learn techniques for coping with their anxiety. These techniques can include desensitizing, learning how to identify the onset of anxiety, interrupting the thought process and then refocusing those thoughts in a more positive manner.

Medication may be prescribed if therapy doesn't work on its own, or if it's an extreme case of anxiety. There are several medications available, but it may take some trial and error before the right one and the right dosage.

The main thing is to realize that an anxiety disorder is a treatable condition. It's simply a matter of receiving the right diagnosis and then finding the treatment options that work best for you.

Alcoholism Is Serious – But There Is Help

Alcohol abuse is not new; there have been people with drinking problem for many years. Throughout history there have been countless events of alcohol abuse and the negative effects it has. You are not alone if you have an alcohol problem, there are many people in the same boat and many that have been there and survived. There are treatment options that can be very effective once you make up your mind to seek help. There isn't one set treatment plan that will work for everyone, some people will respond differently, but there are different options and there is a treatment that will work for you.

How do you know if you have a drinking problem? If you crave alcohol and are obsessed with getting your next drink then you have a problem. When you reach a point that you have lost control and your whole life is functioning around when you get your next drink then it becomes really evident that you are suffering from alcoholism. Your body becomes dependent on alcohol and when you aren't drinking you will experience withdrawal symptoms and the more you drink the more you need to drink as your body builds up a tolerance to it. It is only a matter of time before alcohol takes over your life and can cause you to lose everything.

You might find yourself having many social problems also as you care less about social activities and more about drinking. Your relationship with your friends can suffer when you start canceling engagements and choosing instead to stay home or go out and drink. You may lose your job when you start turning up late or not turning up at all because you are figuring out how to get your next drink. Even your family may take a back seat to your drinking and soon you could lose them too. Everything that was once important to you is now sacrificed just so that you can get that buzz that you feel when you drink. Alcohol becomes so important to you that it matters more to you than all those people in your life that once meant the world to you.

Then there are the many health issues that are associated with alcoholism. Alcohol abuse puts you at high risk for heart disease and other cardiovascular disease. It also puts you at a higher risk of developing cancer and liver and kidney problems. Blood sugar levels are affected and so is your mental health. There are so many health risks from drinking alcohol and you really need to ask yourself if your alcoholism is worth the price of your health.

To overcome alcoholism you really need to want to stop. It doesn't matter how many people tell you that you have a problem and how many people tell you to stop, treatment will not be effective until you make the decision yourself to stop. The longer you drink and the more dependent your body becomes on alcohol the harder it is to stop.

Nobody believes that they can become an alcoholic and most alcoholics will live in denial for a very long time. They don't see their drinking as a problem even though those around them can see it. Alcoholism is a huge problem and it can happen to you so if you think you could have a problem, then seek help now, don't wait until it's too late.

Alcohol And Hypoglycemia

What do alcohol and hypoglycemia have to do with one another? Well, alcohol can be a huge contributer to hypoglycemia. Alcohol behaves just like those processed carbs after you ingest them. They convert to simple sugars and then your body has to counteract with insulin. Insulin lasts longer in your body then the sugar does so you then have a low blood sugar incidence.

The numbers and range for normal blood sugar are from 70mg/dl to 110mg/dl. If you fall below 70mg/dl then you can be considered to have low blood sugar. Don't be too concerned if it only happens once or twice because anyone can have a low blood sugar incidence at any time based on what they have decided to eat. Do be concerned if it happens everyday for an extended period.

If you experience low blood sugar everyday for an extended period then go see your doctor and let him know. He will probably have you start to keep a food journal so he can see where your trouble spots are. He will also want to know about your consumption of alcohol and hypoglycemia incidences that may or may not follow your drinking.

Symptoms vary and you may not experience all of them all at the same time. Mild to moderate hypoglycemia can cause nausea, nervousness, chills, clammy skin, sweating, hunger, rapid heart rate, irritability, anxiousness, confusion, blurry vision, unsteadiness, and have trouble walking. Severe hypoglycemia can lead to loss of consciousness, seizures, coma, and even death.

Based on these symptoms and the severity, you can be sure that hypoglycemia is not a laughing matter and should be taken very seriously. Alcohol may give you what is referred to as a sugar high for a little while but if you drink heavily and would rather not eat food then you will have low blood sugar at some point. Even days later. I know that when you have an addiction or even just a bad habit, it can be hard to break. But, if you want to have a normal life and not have to worry about hypoglycemia then just quit drinking. If you need help to quit then go find it, there are places that can help you.

If you have to drink then make sure to eat some food that is low in carbs and high in protein. The protein will help maintain good blood sugar levels. Stay away from fried foods, they are very high in carbs. A high carb meal will only make things worse for you in the long run.

If you are already diabetic and are taking antidiabetic agents as your medication or have to inject insulin every day then alcohol is not your friend. Your doctor should know if you are drinking. Some medications cannot be taken if you are consuming alcohol. If you drink tell your doctor, he may allow you to have the occasional glass of wine or beer. You won't know if you don't ask.

Another way to combat the effects of alcohol and hypoglycemia is to alternate the alcoholic drinks you have with glasses of water. Staying hydrated will help your body get rid of the alcohol sooner and you probably will not drink as much so you will be less likely to have an incidence of low blood sugar.

Aging Skin Is Optional With A Thermage Face Lift

This article is a brief explanation of an alternative to plastic surgery, Thermage Face Lift, which is becoming more popular. Please do not consider this as medical advice and you should consult your physician prior to any treatment or diagnosis for your body.

Aging gracefully is something, especially women, certainly wish for. However for many this is not the case. Aging can be quite harsh and impact us both physically, mentally and emotionally. One of the reasons for this is age normally reveals itself on the skin (especially impacting the face) the largest organ of the human body and the body's first line of defense against harm.

Today, there are many ways to keep the skin healthy and ageless – with all the new equipment and beauty advancements becoming available for professional and self treatment. Some popular ones include plastic surgery, other treatments for stopping the aging process such as good diet, facial massage therapies, creams and oils for the skin; among others. However, there are cost and side effects are factors to be taken under advisement for each of these procedures for treating the skin.

Invasive plastic surgery, for aesthetic reasons, is considered a viable way of making the aging process disappear, but side effects and cost cannot be underestimated. However perhaps even faster, less painful and best of all non-invasive, but considered effective in nullifying skin aging is the Thermage Face Lift.

This treatment does not cost as much as invasive plastic surgery and there are no known side effects. The procedure itself is performed using a device called "cosmetic radio frequencies". This works externally without hurting the superficial layer of the skin.

How Is A Thermage Face Lift Done?

The Thermage face lift is usually conducted by a dermatologist or physician and normally takes about forty five minutes. The doctor uses a radio frequency device, which discharges pulses emitting heat, that penetrates deeply into the skin.

This technique renews the collagen beneath the skin by destroying the existing collagen. Once the old collagen is destroyed, new collagen growth is induced. This new growth is very important, as it is responsible for the strength of the skin; to counter harmful forces that affect the skin's elasticity and cause it to sag.

Prior to the thermage treatment, preparations are done externally, such as the local application of an anesthetic cream or lotion on the skin where the treatment is to be performed. As the thermage face lift device touches the skin, the patient alternately feels sensations of heating and cooling. Once the heat penetrates the deeper skin layers, this signifies that skin tightening is occurring and the treatment is taking effect.

Those who have undergone thermage face lift would attest to its immediate effect. After the thermage treatment, which normally lasts on the minimum 45 minutes, depending on the body part – a little skin tenderness may be experienced or skin redness. This should not be a cause for alarm – as normally it will take less than 3 days for the tenderness and redness to disappear. However, if you notice unusual swelling or continuation of the tenderness and redness, you should consult your physician immediately.

Benefits Of A Thermage Face Lift

Thermage treatments are not exclusive to the facial skin – as it also can be performed on almost all of the parts of the body such as the arms, hands, tummy, neck, and thighs. Primarily, thermage treatment lifts, smooths, tightens and renews the skin – thus making you look younger and healthier. On the face, it is an effective treatment for eye bags, forehead and brow lifts, removes wrinkles and sagging skin especially on the neck and other parts of the body.

A Brief Summary of Thermage Face Lift

Normally the procedure does not cost much and the overall cost depends on the amount of work that is going to be done. It is non-invasive, hence there are few side effects, which may include brief tenderness and redness; and recovery is quick. For most people who do not want to go under the scalpel, the Thermage Face Lift is recommended to treat aging skin, in addition to proper diet, physical skin care and exercise.

Acrylic Nails Gel Nails What Is The Fad Today

Acrylic Nails, Gel Nails what is the fad today? I think both are pretty popular and it only comes down to your own personal preference. One of the first things anyone notices about you is your hands and a beautifully manicured set if nails can be a great source of pride for some women and if your own nails are not up to the task then nails created by someone else is the answer.

The two most popular ways to create nails are Acrylic Nails, Gel Nails what is the fad today? You can have an amazing set of nails that look completely natural will resist cracking and breaking. You can even have decorations put on them like little rhinestones and if your nail technician is really good they can paint decorations on them like flowers and your favorite character. I knew someone who had Winney the Pooh painted on her nails.

acrylic nails are made by brushing on the liquid acrylic then mixing up a powdered acrylic to make them hard. This has been the best choice for women for a long time. Gel nails are made by using a gel acrylic. The gel is just a little easier to handle and you only need the one step. Both produce the long lasting, beautiful nails you really want. Pricing is comparable one to one.

Either set of nails needs some upkeep. both types need to be filled regularly although the gel nails may not need to be filled as often because the coating of the gel is much less thick than with acrylics.

Acrylics start by applying a fake tip to your finger and then applying the acrylic, by brush, over it, mixing the powdered acrylic with the liquid acrylic to hold the fake tip in place. Gel nails are brushed onto your natural nail without using a fake tip. Both are cured the same way and that means keeping your hands underneath an ultraviolet light for several minutes until they are done.

As I said you will need to get your acrylic nails filled every two to three weeks because as the regular nail grows out then the new section of nail needs the acrylic applied. The gels do not need to be filled as often because they are not nearly as thick so the growing out part of the nail is not as noticeable. Acrylics are more crack and break resistant than their gel counterparts because they are thicker.

Removal is a lot easier for acrylics, too. Your fingers are soaked in a special solution to loosen them so they come off cleanly. gels have to either grow out or get filed off. (not recommended) You do not want to file too much and hurt your natural nail bed. More nail technicians know how to apply acrylics but if they can do acrylics then they can do gels and do not need much training to learn the techniques used. Hopefully this answers your question about acrylic nails, gel nails what is the fad today.

Acne Scars Solution

When it comes to finding the appropriate acne scars solution for your particular situation, you'll be pleased to know that you have a lot of options. For most people it would make sense starting with the least expensive, least invasive procedure possible and only move up to the more costly treatments if you haven't gotten the results you wanted.

Make sure you allow up to a year to allow your skin to heal itself. Most scars will either fade or be gone completely in a year and you won't need to worry about any additional treatments. Your body is made to heal itself and your skin is no different you should allow it time to do it's job. Of course, if your scars are really deep your body probably won't be able to repair that much damage on it's own.

You should also consider waiting until your acne breakouts are controlled. There isn't much sense, especially with the expensive treatments, to spend a lot of money on treatments to get rid of scarring if you are still suffering from bad acne and will likely just get more scarring. Wait until you're mostly past this phase before you worry about treating your scars.

Here is a list of some of the most common treatments for acne scarring. I've arranged them from the easiest and cheapest first down to the more expensive and invasive:

1. Natural cures. This can cover anything from olive oil to urine. There is a lot of evidence that shows these natural and or herbal remedies can be extremely effective treating acne scars. The great thing about these treatments is that they are extremely low cost and you can do it yourself right at home.

2. Doctor prescribed treatments. These will generally consist of a cream that you apply to your skin several times a day. The prescriptions, not to mention the doctors visit, can be fairly expensive. The creams are harsh and you may experience some irritation. With many of these remedies you will experience a hyper sensitivity to sunlight so you have to be very careful when you go out.

3. The more expensive solutions, and more invasive, are things like laser treatments, chemical peels, and IPL therapy. These procedures basically will either remove the top layer of damaged skin and encourage quicker growth of the underlying layers, or will target a beam of light directly through the top layer of skin and work on the undesirable damaged lower layer of skin. They tend to be quite expensive and results will vary greatly from one patient to the next and depending on the size and depth of your scars. If you want to look into any of these options just make sure you have a thorough understanding of what you can realistically expect as well as how many sessions you'll likely need, and of course, the cost.

Now you have an idea of some of the acne scars solution available. All of these solutions have had some success, some more than others, but none of them is successful 100% of the time. It's important for you to find the solution that will work for you and your unique situation.

Acne Scar Removal Cost – It Depends

For many of us, the passage from youth to adulthood has left us scarred in some way. If you've struggled with acne your scars might very well be real and visible to all. No one wants to look in the mirror and constantly be reminded of the painful time in their life when their face was on fire with acne. If you want to find out what options you have to get rid of these scars and find out what the acne scar removal cost will be, read on.

There are so many different types of treatments you can try. Each has it's own pros and cons and while they all have those that swear by them, none of them has been proven to be100% effective for everyone. That is why it's so important for you to take some time to investigate your options, educate yourself, and ask questions before you make a decision on which method is the best one for you.

Here are some things to consider:

1. The most likely place for you to start your search is at your dermatologists office. Your doctor can prescribe topical creams that have a high success rates. These creams are usually either Retin A (which has the active ingredient of Tretinoin) or Alpha-Hydroxy which is an acid. These prescriptions can be a little pricey but overall this is one of the least expensive methods you can use to reduce your scars.

Make sure you listen carefully when your doctor or pharmacist explains the side effects. One of the most common, and extreme, side effects with Retin A is a hyper sensitivity to sunlight. You have to be very careful when you go outside whenever you use these products.

2. Microdermabrasion is a fairly inexpensive way to treat your acne scars. This method is an intense exfoliation which sloughs off the top few layers of skin leaving, after healing, only clear and smooth textured skin.

Since there are many places you can have this procedure done, such as a spa, your doctors office, or even at home with a kit, the cost can vary widely. An at home kit can cost as little as $20 with a doctors office treatment running upwards of a few thousand dollars. One thing to keep in mind, I know you're not made of money but this is the skin on your face that we're talking about and cheaping out may not yield the best results. Try to get the best treatment you can afford.

3. Laser treatment. These treatments are usually the most expensive and, depending on your skin type, the severity of your scars, as well as precisely which type of treatment you use, this method may require several visits over a period of time which is one of the reasons this method is so expensive. This procedure will be performed in your dermatologists office and the price can range from anywhere from $500 all the way up to $5,000. Your actual cost will depend on your doctor and what part of the country you live in.

It would be impossible for me to tell you absolutely how much your acne scar removal cost will be. The actual amount will vary depending on many factors such as the magnitude of the job and your location. The good news is that you do have choices. If you're willing to take some time and find the best options for you, you can have clear skin much sooner, and maybe for less money, than you may have realized. Don't suffer anymore, find the best way to remove your acne scars once and for all.
