Cosmetic Surgery Recovery: The Importance of Following All Directions

Did you just recently schedule an appointment to undergo cosmetic surgery? Regardless of what type of procedure you are having, recovery time is important. In fact, your cosmetic surgeon should provide you with a set of post-surgery directions for you to follow. Do you know just how important it is that you follow those directions?

Simply just knowing that it is important to follow all post-surgery directions isn't enough for many individuals. Many are often left wondering what the worst is that could happen. In all honesty, if you really did know there is a good chance that you won't miss a step, no matter how large or small, in your recovery process.

As for the dangers or risks that are associated with not following all post-surgery directions that are given to you, the greatest is the risk of complications. If you undergo liposuction or have excess skin removed from your body, cutting will be involved. Of course, you will be closed back up, but did you know that wounds are subject to infection? Many are. That is why you should proceed with caution. Skin infections that result from improper care aren't only painful, but they can cause serious health complications, including the early onset of death.

Another reason why it is important for you to follow the directions given to you by your cosmetic surgeon for the recovery process is because of results. There are some cosmetic procedures, like liposuction and gastric bypass surgery, where certain steps must be taken by you. For liposuction, excess fat, around five to ten pounds, will be removed from your problem spots. To keep your lean look, you must be able to eat healthy and start a regular exercise plan. If you do not abide by your doctor's instructions to do so, you may gain the weight and excess fat back in as little as a few months. This, essentially, means that you wasted your money on surgery in the first place.

As previously stated, your cosmetic surgeon should provide you with a detailed list of directions to follow after your surgery. In fact, this information should be discussed ahead of time, during your consultation appointment. If you have yet to have your consultation appointment, you may be curious as to what the recovery process will be like for you. Typically, it will depend on what specific procedure you will undergo; however, there are some common steps that can and should be taken.

Over-the-counter pain medicines can be used for the slight pain and discomfort you are likely to experience from cosmetic surgery. Be sure to inquire as to which medications are the best. An ice pack will likely need to be applied to help reduce the swelling. You may also be required to change your bandages on a daily basis or keep them clean and dry until your next visit. You will also likely face restrictions. For body work, like liposuction, breast enlargements and reductions, you may be required to avoid heavy lifting and exercising for at least two to three weeks.

As you can see, it is important that you follow any after surgery instructions provided to you by your cosmetic surgeon. If you have any questions or concerns about the recovery process, please ask and before your procedure begins. In fact, make sure that you have any lingering questions answered at your consultation appointment.

Curing Acne

According to most medical experts, teenagers tend to develop acne at a higher rate compared to adults or to any other age groups. The major reason for this risk is the increased output of hormones during puberty, the production of sebaceous glands and the continuous increase of skin-cell turnover within the skin follicles. It is also noted that increased stress also affects the development of acne and that the condition tends to get worst if the patient undergoes rigorous work loads.

Dermatologists also believe that improper diet contributes a lot to the development of acne. Poor dietary habits like taking in foods with too much sugar and fat content affect your skin follicles. Although there is no concrete clinical evidence to support this hypothesis, most doctors still advise their acne patients to balance their diet and develop good eating habits.

What You Can Do

Studies have shown that there is a proven genetic tendency or pattern for acne especially if other family members of the acne patient have developed acne. Naming "propionibacteria" as the most common bacteria that cause acne and other skin infections, medical experts agree that these bacteria–when present on the skin–can lead to adolescent, persistent, or adult-onset acne.

Due to recent science and medical developments, more and more acne treatments have been discovered. Some are quite effective than the others depending on the patient's condition. Effective acne cure and treatment are sometimes recommended by dermatologists in single or various combinations depending on the stage and development of the acne the person has.

One of the most effective ways to cure acne is by using topical treatments such as acne lotions, acne creams, and gels that are applied on the skin. These topical antibiotics–medicines that are formulated to terminate acne-causing bacteria–can help in the reduction of acne.

Medical experts have categorized the types of topical antibiotics to erythromycin, clindamycin, and sulfa drugs. The application of topical medicines is believed to be quite effective in curing acne because the medication is applied directly to the affected area in controlled dosage.

And since there is no need for patients to swallow the medicine, the components of the drugs do not have to travel through the body–thus lessens the possibility of side effects. Retinoid, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic and glycolic acids, are the most common ingredients that respond well to severe blackheads and whiteheads.

Although topical medication is effective in curing acne, it also has minor disadvantages like the possible tolerance of bacteria to the medicine that leads to resistance to the medication over time.

Another way to cure acne is through oral medications. Unlike topical medication that is applied to the surface of the affected area, oral medications are taken orally to be distributed throughout the bloodstream. This is known to be a systemic treatment because the drug is taken to all of the body's functioning systems and is quite useful when acne develops on the skin on multiple stages. The most common oral acne medications include tetracyclines, minocycline, doxycyclin, and isotretinoin, or retinoic acid.

Other ways to cure acne include hormone therapy that aims to restore the normal balance of hormones in the patient's body, and acne surgery for severe and persistent acne that cannot be cured by topical or oral medication.

Before using any medication or before undergoing any treatment to cure acne, make sure that you have consulted with your dermatologist or physician first to avoid further complications.

Determing Which is the Best Hair Loss Product

You have probably asked yourself time and time again, what is the best hair loss product available?

That question was asked on a Google answers site, and the experts answer? They stated that there is no answer to that question.

They are correct in that there is no general answer to that question, but there is an answer to the alternative question, "What is the best hair loss product for me?"

It's still not an easy question to answer though, and you'll probably need to find the answer via good old-fashioned trial and error methods.

Home Remedies

There are many kinds of home remedies for hair loss. I'm pretty sure some of them can be disregarded — like rubbing cow manure on your head — but some of them probably do help some people.

Here are a few of the more promising home remedies for hair loss:

Rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar and sage tea.

A variety of oils have been used–almond oil, castor oil, olive oil, and amla oil. Usually the oil is warmed, which will at least feel good and make your hair shiny.

Applying coconut milk or aloe vera gel to your scalp.

Applying a masque of honey and egg yolk to your hair and scalp.

All of these concoctions should be washed out (except the apple cider and sage tea rinse) after use.

Hair Care Products

The best hair loss product for you could be as simple as a good shampoo or conditioner. Some people swear by Nizoral shampoo, and say it puts an end to hair loss. Some people love Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner, because it makes their hair look and feel fuller and thicker. Your hairdresser may have some suggestions about hair care products that help you with your hair loss.

Herbal Remedies

Some people believe that the best hair loss product is an herbal remedy. There are a number of herbal lotions and potions as well as nutritional supplements specially formulated to treat hair loss. An herbalist may be able to recommend the best products for your particular type of hair loss.

Here are a few herbal remedies that seem to help:

Ginko biloba

Green tea

A Chinese herb called "he shou wu"

Pygeum

Aloe vera

Saw palmetto

Stinging nettle

Some of these are taken in pill form and some are made into preparations that you rub onto your scalp. Some (like, for instance, stinging nettles) can cause a reaction, so use all herbal preparations with care.

Minoxidil (Rogain(R))

A lot of people consider that this is the best hair loss product. It's available without a prescription at any pharmacy, and it works for a lot of people. Minoxidil helps both men and women to grow more hair. Remember, though, that as soon as you quit taking minoxidil, your hair will start to fall out again.

Prescription Medications

A prescription medication, such as Propecia, could be the ideal hair loss product for you. You need to see the doctor to get it, but that's a good thing, because she will conduct a check-up to see if there is some underlying cause to your hair loss that can be taken care of permanently.

Wigs, Rugs and Weaves

It could turn to be that the best hair loss product for you is a cover up of some kind.

This is especially true when the hair loss is temporary, such as when your hair falls out while undergoing chemotherapy.

There are a lot of options available to you to treat hair loss, but only you can decide which is the best hair loss product for you. Test a few things, and when you find something that works for you, stick with it. It may not work for everybody, but the important thing here is that you will have found the best hair loss product for you.

If you are under an enormous amount of pressure either from work or school or family life at home or all of the above plus anything else you can throw into the mix then you really do need to know the dangers of stress and learn how to deal with it as soon as possible.

Increased levels of stress in our lives can cause:

Headaches,
increased or abnormal heart rate,
tension in the shoulders and neck,
and digestion problems like nausea, heartburn, constipation and/or diarrhea.

You may also find that you get sick more often. This is because prolonged exposure to stressful situations can deplete your immune system and leave you with nothing to fight off even the most common germs that bombard us every single day.

Prolonged exposure to stressful situations can also have an effect on the one thing that keeps us all going every single day of our lives, our heart. Stressful situations can lead to high blood pressure.

High blood pressure can lead to heart attack, blood clots that can cause stroke, and even death.

If you have been under an increased amount of stress lately and have noticed any of these symptoms, you should get to your doctor as soon as you can and get a physical.

Maybe you just need someone to be a sounding board to get things off of your chest. You may be surprised how talking to someone can alleviate many of these symptoms.

I do not mean you have to go out right now and find a counselor but anyone who will listen and help you get things off your chest can do you a world of good. Never underestimate what a good friend and a cup of coffee can do for you.

There are numerous techniques that can teach you how to reduce the amount of tension you feel in your life, some as simple as relaxing in a nice, hot bath or taking a walk.

Just being out in nature is said to be a huge stress reliever. If you have access to a nature preserve or state park, take the family on a nature walk, or go by yourself. Breathe the air and watch the birds and animals all around you. You will feel a lot better in the end.

Other forms of exercise will benefit you, as well. Join a local gym and go work out all of your frustrations on the weight machines or treadmill. Do whatever you can to alleviate all the stressful situations in your life and you will not have to worry about the dangers of stress affecting your overall health in the long run.

Physiotherapy For Cancer Patients

Cancer is probably the most feared illness. Cancer is not the death sentence it was many years ago. More people are now surviving cancer than ever before as more effective treatments to combat this dreaded disease are discovered every day by the medical community. Many in the medical community agree that a patient's attitude has much to do with the patient making a full recovery.

Physiotherapy for cancer patients is crucial to their recovery. Many hospitals that treat cancer patients develop a team of doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists to assist the cancer patient in all aspects of combating his illness and then making a full recovery. The team works together to insure that the illness is combated from all angles. No longer is one doctor the sole person to whom a cancer patient can turn for help.

Physiotherapy for cancer patients encompasses a wide spectrum of treatment. Many people who have a tumor removed, for example, experience swelling in the area of removal,. Physiotherapy can work wonders to alleviate the swelling an assist the patient towards a complete recovery. Relieving swelling of certain areas, particularly in the lymph nodes, can not only alleviate pain, but may put the disease at bay.

Weakness and loss of appetite are common symptoms of those undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Chronic fatigue is common, but can also lead to depression. The medical community is now beginning to realize how important a positive attitude on the part of the patient is in achieving full recovery from the illness. Physiotherapy to treat cancer patients may entail getting a person who is tired from chemotherapy treatments a bit mobile. No one expects them to do strenuous work, but implementing a mild exercise plan can do wonders for those receiving chemotherapy treatments. Exercise stimulates the endorphins in the brain that can elevate the mood as well as induce energy. Licensed physiotherapists often work with those who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment to implement an appropriate exercise regime that will enable the patient to not only recover from the treatment quicker, but can also stave off some of the side effects of chemotherapy.

Lymphedema therapy is very important when treating cancer patients who have tissue swelling from tumor removal or swelling in their lymph nodes due to cancer. Physiotherapy to treat cancer patients also includes lymphedema therapy that is a specialized part of physiotherapy and can help restore normal function for patients.

In addition to providing individualized programs to help cancer patients recover from their illness, physiotherapy for cancer patients can benefit these patients psychologically as well. Physiotherapists often work very closely with their patients and develop a bond with them. This bond can be a tremendous comfort to someone who is facing an illness such as cancer and who may be surrounded by doctors who, very often, do not take the necessary time to explain procedures and options to the patients. While doctors are encouraged not to "get involved" with their patients, for many different reasons, physiotherapists are trained to develop a good rapport with their patients as this generally adds a feeling of trust between therapist and patient and is proven to produce good results.

Food Allergy Insomnia

Do you have a baby that cries all night and does not sleep? Perhaps you can relate perfectly to this, you are exhausted from running back and forth all night trying to comfort your wailing baby. It seems no matter what you do, the baby will not sleep. You may have even called your mother or mother-in-law and asked for their advice in which case you may have been told that you have a colicky baby on your hands. This may not be the case at all and what the real issue at hand is something that can be cleared up right away. Your baby may have insomnia due to food allergies. At this point, there is a very good chance that your baby is allergic to milk products.

Even if you baby is allergic to milk that does not mean that by age four, the issue will not have resolved itself and the child will then be able to properly process milk products but for now, milk is not going to work. Of course, this can not be an assumption that you make on your own as baby will have to see the doctor first. If your baby is allergic to cow's milk, which is in plenty of infant formulas, there will be other symptoms present too such as shortness of breath and stomach upset which may or may not include vomiting. Although food allergies are rarely a cause for insomnia in adults, it can sure cause baby many sleepless nights until the culprit is found.

When your baby is allergic to cow's milk, their immune system will see the protein in the cows milk as a danger and they will try to fight it off, which is where all of the problems come in and baby is very fussy and unable to sleep. Your infant having a milk allergy does not mean that they are lactose intolerant and it may not stay with them for the rest of their lives as they could very well outgrow it within a few years.

In the meantime the doctors will likely switch baby to a soy based formula, unless of course you decide to breastfeed. If you do decide to start breastfeeding baby remember that if he is sensitive or allergic to cow's milk then you are going to have to avoid all dairy intake as well so that baby does not get it through your milk.

While this article has centered on babies and their milk allergies that result in insomnia, it should be known that this can happen in children and adults with other food products as well. Sometimes it is very difficult to figure out what it is that you are allergic to so if you partner with your doctor he will be able to assist you in keeping track of exactly what you are allergic to and from there monitor any pattern of insomnia. This could be in the form of keeping a food diary as a way to find out the allergy by a process of elimination.

Cosmetic Surgery Patient Stories: Why You Should First Read Them

Are you in the process of considering cosmetic surgery? If you are, you may be looking for more information. After all, the decision to undergo cosmetic surgery is a big decision; it is not one that should be made on a whim. If you are interested in undergoing cosmetic surgery to correct an imperfection, such as excess skin, excess fat, stretch marks, or winkles, but are not one hundred percent sure about your decision, you may be unsure as to how you should proceed. For starters, you may want to examine cosmetic surgery patient stories.

Cosmetic surgery patient stores, as you likely already know, are stories that are told by those who have undergone cosmetic surgery. They are firsthand accounts, which are often posted online. If you haven't already taken the time to read a few of these firsthand accounts you will want to do so. Most importantly, you will want to do so before you make your final decision about your surgery.

As for what reading cosmetic surgery patient stories can do for you, it can help you understand the reasoning behind these popular surgeries. Although you may want to slow the signs of aging and eliminate your wrinkles, you may be wondering if cosmetic surgery is really your best option. By examining cosmetic surgery patient stories, you can see that people undergo cosmetic surgery for a number of different reasons. These are people just like you and many have the same reasons for choosing surgery. This may help to provide you with reassurance that you are making the right decision.

Cosmetic surgery patient stories can help you know what to expect. For the best results, you will want to read the firsthand accounts of those who underwent the procedure that you are interested in, like a surgical facelift. Many patients will tell you how the procedure worked, often in a step-by-step format. They may also outline what they were feeling at the time, whether it be fear or excitement, as well as share ways on how to cope with those emotions.

The recovery process is an important component of undergoing a successful cosmetic surgery procedure. Unfortunately, many do not know just how important the recovery process is. Should you choose to go forward with the procedure, you will likely receive a set of instructions. These instructions may include having your area covered with bandages, applying antibiotic ointment, and so forth. In addition to outlining what the recovery process entails, the side effects, such as slight pain and discomfort, may also be touched on.

Perhaps, the greatest reason why you should find and read cosmetic surgery patient stories is because you can learn how cosmetic surgery changed the lives of others just like you. Once again, this can help you determine if cosmetic surgery is really in your best interest. Although you will find varied accounts, those who undergo surgery often report an improvement in health, an improvement in physical appearance, and an improvement in self-esteem and self-confidence. These are the same improvements that you too can experience.

As for how you can find cosmetic surgery patient stories, there are a number of different approaches that you can take. They are easier to find online. You can perform a standard internet search. Many cosmetic surgery centers also post stories and testimonials on their websites. Your local surgical centers may also have similar information available for your viewing in print.

In addition to reading firsthand accounts from other surgery patients, who are essentially strangers, you may want to ask those that you know. If any of your friends, relatives, coworkers, or neighbors have undergone a cosmetic procedure, inquire about their experience. Since cosmetic procedures, like breast reductions and facelifts, do vary, you may want to try to speak with those who have undergone the same surgical procedure. This approach is nice as you can also ask any additional questions that you may have.

Make Up For Dark Circles-Tips To Cover Them Up

Make up for dark circles usually comes in the form of some sort of concealer. Concealers come in any number of shades and you should choose carefully so you do not actually make the matter worse than it already is. There are some other tricks you can use to brighten up the rest of your face, as well.

There are several reasons a woman may need to start using make up for dark circles not the least of which is just her age. Other reasons include; allergies, sinus congestion, too much or too little sleep among others. No matter the reason, there are a variety of makeup tricks that can virtually make them disappear.

Choose a concealer carefully:

1. Stop at a cosmetics counter at a store at the mall and ask for their advice on which concealer would work best for you. You can try different types of concealers before settling on a purchase. Try out different shades so you get to match your skin tone as closely as possible.

2. There are different shades for different color "bags". A yellowish tinted concealer will hide dark purple ones, an orange tinted concealer will hide bluish ones and, blue, mauve, or tan tinted concealers will hide brownish ones. There are even green and light blue tinted concealers to hide red under eye ones.

3. Choose a lightweight but creamy concealer. The concealer should glide on smoothly, but not be greasy, and not require a lot of rubbing to apply. Do your self a favor and train yourself to not rub your eyes, no matter how tired they get, this can exacerbate the situation and actually cause the areas under your eyes to remain reddened for some time.

4. While you are at the cosmetics counter, after each application of a different color concealer, move away from the counter, but make sure you can still see in the mirror, and check how the concealer looks under more natural lights. Cosmetics counters are lit in a way to make everyone look as good as possible.

The goal here is to make sure that your "bags" aren't noticeable under normal lighting conditions.

How to apply your new concealer:

1. Apply your normal foundation to even out your complexion. Smooth it out as you normally would, without paying any special attention to under the eye. Once your foundation is in place, you should be able to clearly see the dark circles that you need to conceal.

2. Use your new concealer under your eyes applying it in a thin, even coat. Use either an applicator sponge or by pat it on with your finger. Fingers work the best because you have a little more control. Once the concealer is on then go ahead and cover it with some of your foundation.

3. Pay attention to the area where your eye meets the bridge of your nose as this area tends to be the darkest on most people.

You should now be able to look in the mirror and like what you see. Remember these tips regarding make up for dark circles and they should no longer be a source of stress for you.

Counseling Stress Will Help You Get Sleep At Night

From the moment you wake in the morning until the moment you fall asleep at night, stressful situations fill your days. Life can be very demanding, and it is extremely important to understand that prolonged exposure to stressful situations can be harmful to your health and finding counseling for stress may be the next best step in controlling it.

Learning to eliminate stress from your life is one of the best ways to improve your life and possibly even to extend your life.

One of the best ways to eliminate stress is with counseling for stress which is a treatment used to help people cope with stress. Treatment is typically conducted by a psychologist and usually takes place in peaceful surroundings.

The world today is increasingly stressful and most people suffer from some level of stress. How you handle the day to day stressful situations depends on the type of person you are and your personality.

Some people can seemingly let things just slide off of their backs while others let things build up until they end up suffering other symptoms related to stress and find they need help in coping.

If you find that life has got you down to the point of having feeling of depression and despair then it would make sense to find someone to talk things through with.

There is no shame in seeking out a good therapist. The main focus of this type of therapy is for the counselor to teach you relaxation techniques to improve your state of mind, and it is designed to show you how to cope better with the pressures of day to day living.

There may be a few ways for the counselor you choose to go about this. Three of the most common stress relief therapy techniques are:

Hypnotherapy – Hypnosis is a form of therapy that can help reduce tension and anxiety. It can also help get rid of negative thoughts associated with depression and despair.

If your counselor is licensed or certified to do this, you will be put into a state of deep relaxation, and once there, will give you positive suggestions on how to better cope with all the things causing you to feel the way you do.

Aromatherapy may be used as well to help calm the body and mind so relaxation comes easier. In some cases patients may be referred to a psychiatrist and be given antidepressants to help control symptoms of depression caused by the inability to cope effectively.

Counseling is a form of therapy used when people who have bottled everything up for so long that they feel the only way back to where they started is to talk things out with a professional about what is causing them to feel the way they do.

Counseling for stress is easy, it is just talking, but it can also become very emotional especially if you have let the stresses of every day life build on each other to the point of overflowing. It also helps you learn techniques to alleviate present stresses, cope with future stresses, and how to relax when you start to feel stressed.
