Physiotherapy To Treat Neck And Shoulder Pain

If you have ever been in a car accident where another vehicle hit the back of your car, you may have experienced what is commonly known as 'whiplash." You sprang forward suddenly, then backward and overstretched your neck to the point where you tore the supporting ligaments. In severe whiplash, you may have even damaged the muscles and discs in the neck and hurt the nerves. Contrary to popular belief, someone doesn't realize they have "whiplash" until about 24 hours after the accident. They wake up with a stiff neck, headache and pain. Often, physiotherapy to treat neck and shoulder pain can provide instant relief for those suffering from whiplash, although several treatments may be needed for a patient to continue to find pain relief. These treatments, however, are preferable to drugs which have a habit of causing physical dependency.

Many people who suffer whiplash go to the doctor where they are given an x-ray, an immobilization collar and some pain medication. Often, they are advised to put icepacks on the injured area for several days to alleviate the swelling. Pain from this injury can take weeks to heal.

Fortunately, physiotherapy to treat neck and shoulder pain caused by whiplash as well as other muscle strains has proven a very effective remedy in alleviating the symptoms of pain. While pain medications mask the pain and can be very habit forming, the manipulations used by the physiotherapist can provide relief within minutes, instead of hours or days.

When using physiotherapy to treat neck and shoulder pain, the therapist will often perform some gentle exercises to mobilize the area. The patient may resist this as they tend to cause a bit of discomfort, but to keep the area mobile is better than allowing it to get "stiff" which will result in a longer recovery time. By gently turning the head and manipulating the area, the physiotherapist can loosen the muscles that have been tensed in the trauma and provide some pain relief.

Another way to use physiotherapy to treat neck and shoulder pain is by massage. Often the therapist will massage the affected area, eliminating the stiffness and improving blood flow to the area. This often eliminates the headache as well that is caused by the stiff neck. Very often, a person who seeks a therapist to use physiotherapy to treat neck and shoulder pain will experience immediate results.

Neck and shoulder pain can have many causes, although whiplash is the most common. Other causes of neck and shoulder pain are poor posture, particularly for those who work in offices or sit in front of computers all day. This can weaken the ligaments and muscles in the shoulders and neck and cause discomfort. A physiotherapist can treat neck and shoulder pain through massage, manipulations and, by discovering what is causing your neck and shoulder pain, can assist you in your attempt to correct the problem.

Physiotherapy to treat neck and shoulder pain is very common and is one of the primary reasons why patients seek physical therapy. Physiotherapy to treat neck and shoulder pain should only be practiced by a licensed physiotherapist.

Popular Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures

Are you looking to improve your appearance? When many of us think of cosmetic improvements, traditional cosmetic surgery procedures, like breast enlargements, facelifts, and liposuction, often come to mind. With that said, those are not the only types of cosmetic surgical procedures you can undergo. If you are looking to improve your smile, namely by way of your teeth, you may want to visit a cosmetic dentist.

As nice as it is to hear that there is such a thing as a cosmetic dentist, who specializes in the appearance of teeth, not just the health of them, you may be looking for more information. One of the most common questions asked concerns procedures. Many wonder what type of cosmetic dentistry procedures are available to them. The good news is that there are quite a few, some of which are briefly highlighted below.

A gum lift is a common cosmetic surgery that is performed by cosmetic dentists. Although most individuals want to change the appearance of their teeth, the teeth aren't always the main problem. If you have uneven or excess gums, your teeth may look uneven and possibly even crooked. If that is the case, a gum lift is advised. During the cosmetic surgical procedure, your excess gum will be removed, giving you an even, flawless smile.

Veneers are another common cosmetic dentistry procedure that is performed. In fact, veneers are increasing in popularity. They are designed for those who have imperfections with their teeth. These imperfections often include cracked teeth, crooked teeth, or teeth with a significant amount of staining. As for how the procedure works, each tooth will be resized and reshaped. Then, a mold will be taken of the "new," tooth. The dentist's laboratory will then create a custom mold, which will be bonded to your reshaped tooth. Although veneers are a great way to cut down the cost of dental work, please know that they are permanent and that the procedures cannot be reversed.

Another common cosmetic surgical procedure that is performed by qualified dentists is that of dental implants. Do you have a missing tooth or a tooth that needs to be pulled? If you do, dentures may not be a viable option, especially if the rest of your teeth are in healthy shape. If that is the case, dental implants are advised. With dental implants, an artificial tooth is used. That artificial tooth is securely anchored into the jaw bone or the gums. As with veneers, dental implants look and feel just like real teeth.

The above mentioned cosmetic dental procedures are those that can also be considered surgical procedures. It is also important to know that there are additional procedures performed by cosmetic dentists. These procedures are often less invasive and they are typically more affordable. One of those procedures is that of teeth whitening. A professional teeth whitening procedure can reduce stains that are due to coffee, smoking, and aging.

Regardless of how much we all care for our teeth, many of us develop cavities. If you do, the common choice of dentists is that of metal fillings. Ask a cosmetic dentist, however, and they will have a different view. If you are looking to keep your smile and your mouth attractive, you should examine tooth colored fillings. A cosmetic dentist can use a colored coded chart to create the perfect match. Before that is done, however, you may also want to consider undergoing a teeth whitening procedure.

As you can see, you have a number of different options when looking to improve both the health and appearance of your teeth. In fact, the above mentioned procedures are just a few of your many options. You should schedule a consultation appoint with a local, qualified cosmetic dentist to develop an appropriate plan of action. As a reminder, a healthy, beautiful smile can do you wonders. For starters, you will likely notice a significant improvement in your self-esteem and self-confidence.

Primary Insomnia

Primary insomnia is one in which there is no medical, environmental or psychological cause for. It is characterized by the following, it lasts for at least one month, difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, sleep disturbance that causes effects that roll over into the next day, disrupting social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. Primary insomnia can then be even further broken down into three categories, Psycho physiological insomnia, and Idiopathic insomnia, Sleep state misperception.

Several tests might be conducted to find out the possible causes of insomnia. Once all medical tests have been conducted to rule out any underlying medical condition then you may be sent to a sleep treatment sleep center where they will likely keep you for an overnight stay to conduct a Polysomnography test. This test can not necessarily tell doctors what is causing the insomnia but it will determine what is not causing it. What is not causing it can sure be irritating when you discover that there is no reason at all for your insomnia, it's just plain and simple that you can not sleep. When there is no cause there certainly can not be a treatment.

Multiple sleep latency tests are also usually conducted and this gives the doctor even further information to make a solid diagnosis. Once all is ruled out it is likely that if the insomnia continues, the doctor would then prescribe a sleep medication to the patient. Usually though, before the doctor will start writing out prescriptions for medication he will want the patient to keep a sleep log for a few weeks. This usually gives the doctor a pretty good idea of what is going on as he is able to look at times of rest versus time of wakening and the frequency of them.

There are some things that a person can do at home for themselves in the meantime such as eliminate caffeine, alcohol, avoid heavy meals near bedtime, do not perform any physical activity near bedtime, do not nap, and keep the room temperature comfortable and the lighting down. You can also try hypnosis or over the counter or prescription medications. Just remember that regardless of which type of insomnia you have or what the cause you have to find out the cause and deal with it right away because not getting adequate sleep is very bad for your health.

Primary insomnia, which basically means insomnia where there is no reason for it and of course this is very frustrating to say the least because it might seem like nothing can be done. But many times what happens is because the night before when there was an evident lack of sleep, you may start right away in the morning dwelling on the probability of being able to sleep later that night.

This is one of the worst things that can be done because it puts an element in your mind and then being able to sleep naturally becomes rather something that you try your hardest to accomplish.

Male Pattern Baldness – Causes, Symptoms Treatment

Androgenetic alopecia, better known as male pattern baldness, is a fact of life for millions of men. The most common type of hair loss for men, it is best identified as a pattern of receding hairline and hair thinning on the crown. It is estimated to affect 90 percent of men by the age of 50 as a consequence of hormonal function and genetics.

Many different treatments exist to combat pattern baldness, including medicines such as finasteride (Propecia) and minoxidil (Rogaine) and procedures such as hair transplantation. More than ever before, men with male pattern baldness are seeking out companies such as Bosley to perform hair transplant procedures for a permanent restoration of their natural hairlines.

Causes

Male pattern baldness is related to hormones called androgens, specifically an androgen called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It attaches to receptor cells on the scalp and hair follicles, interrupting and interacting with the normal mechanics involved with continual, healthy hair growth. Men whom display male pattern baldness typically have lower levels testosterone, but a proportionately higher level of DHT in their body. Other factors such as lifestyle factors and terminal illness may cause hair loss as well.

Symptoms

The most notable symptom of the onset of male pattern baldness is hair loss along the hairline that gradually recedes into an "M" shape. The hair at the crown begins to thin, eventually meeting the receding hairline and creating a horseshoe pattern of hair around the sides of the head. Male pattern baldness is typically diagnosed by the appearance of this pattern. Other diseases such as alopecia areata or folliculitis may cause dissimilar balding patterns and should not be diagnosed as male pattern baldness.

Treatment

Medicinal treatments for male pattern baldness include Propecia and Rogaine. Both are more successful at slowing hair loss than exhibiting new hair growth. Needless to say, unlike hair transplantation as offered by companies like Bosley, no medicinal treatment is a permanent solution for male pattern baldness. Of the two, Propecia is most successful with male pattern baldness as it inhibits the growth of DHT androgens. Take a look at the Propecia and Rogaine sections on BattleAgainstBald.com to learn more about how the treatments work and their effectiveness.

Hair transplantation is very effective at treating male pattern baldness. Since hair follicles from the side and back of the head are resistant to the DHT androgens, hair simply must be transplanted from healthy parts of the scalp to the affected areas.

The surgery has become increasingly popular in the last few years. Since 2004, there has been a 34% increase in hair transplant procedures, according to a survey conducted by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). The increase is a result of an increase in effectiveness of the procedure and the natural results it yields. In 2006-2010, approximately 87% of hair restoration surgeries were for patients with pattern baldness.

F. Ex. Bosley Medical has performed over 200,000 of such procedures, making it one of the most reputable resources for victims of male pattern baldness to seek treatment.

Laser Hair Removal: The Pros and Cons

Do you have unwanted hair that you would like to have removed? If so, you may be interested in learning more about laser hair removal. Laser hair removal, like all other cosmetic surgery procedures does have its pros and cons.

What many men and women like best about laser hair removal is that the procedure is often considered to be permanent. It honestly depends on how well the job was performed. By taking the time to find a qualified laser surgeon and by following all recovery instructions, you shouldn't have to worry about waxing, shaving, or hiding your unwanted hair anymore.

Another pro or plus side to laser hair removal is that there are little to no side effects. Most individuals will experience a small amount of pain and discomfort, but it is often minimal when compared to other cosmetic procedures. Many also say that laser hair removal is similar to undergoing a waxing procedure. Ask your laser surgeon about the recovery process, like what to do if you experience pain and discomfort. What steps should be taken? Typically, you will find that moisturizing creams, ice packs, and over-the-counter pain medications work best.

The long-term costs are another reason why laser hair removal is a popular choice for men and women, just like yourself. At first glance, the cost of laser hair removal may seem quite high, but it is important to remember that the procedure is long-term. This means that you don't have to spend money on over-the-counter hair removers, shavers and shaving creams, and no more expensive and painful waxing procedures.

Although there are a number of pros or plus sides to undergoing laser hair removal, there are also a number of cons or downsides to doing so as well. One of those is that multiple treatment sessions are needed. As for how many you will have, it will depend on a number of factors. These factors include your gender, skin tone, and the area where work is being performed. Typically, you will find that three to five sessions is the norm.

As highlighted above, cost was sited as a pro to laser hair removal, but it is also important to examine the cost that you are charged. Since you have to undergo multiple treatment sessions, be sure to determine the exact cost. When you call around for information on pricing or when you attend a consultation appoint, get the exact, total cost of treatment. Although laser surgeons rarely offer guarantees, if you are told that only four treatments will be needed, you shouldn't necessarily have to pay for the fifth.

Most importantly, it is important to know that there are risks associated with laser hair removal. These risks may include irritation of the skin, burning of the skin, and scaring. There are, however, ways that you can protect yourself. Don't just choose the laser surgery center that has the cheapest rates. Instead, look for a professional that has affordable rates, yet good qualifications and a high track record of success. Paying a few extra dollars is more than worth it when your risk of complications significantly decreases.

As you can see, there are both a number of pros and cons to laser hair removal. If you are tired of constantly shaving, waxing, or using over-the-counter hair removal products, contact a qualified cosmetic surgeon today. A consultation appointment can help you determine if hair removal by way of laser surgery is your best option.

Stars And Botox-Go To Drug For The Rich And Famous

When it comes to non invasive cosmetic procedures, botox is the go to drug. Millions of people utilize botox to firm up their face and remove the various creases and wrinkles that come about from old age. Stars and Botox also tend to go hand in hand as celebrities seem to make the most use out of any procedure that can keep them looking their best.

But what happens when the celebs take it just a little too far? For those who do not know what exactly botox is, it stands for Botulinum toxin. It is a paralyzing agent that can be injected into certain muscle groups to allow them to relax. It is a safe procedure undergone by millions of people world wide. But it is not without it's drawbacks.

Botox has been linked with several side effects such as droopy eyes, swelling, difficulty swallowing and breathing and other side effects. But there is more to it then just that. When a botox injection goes wrong, it can leave long lasting effects. For example, some celebs have reported difficulty in attaining certain expressions, such as a simple smile due to their routine use of botox.

When these Stars and Botox treatments do not mesh well, incidents like the above can happen. Sometimes these side effects are only temporary and they will recover. However other times they can be permanent, robbing them of the ability to ever use those expressions again.

Not all drawbacks are so doom and gloom, though. Routine uses of botox may not harm you or deprive you of expressions, but they also may not allow you to look your best either. Some celebs simply do not seem to look themselves through their rigorous use of botox. A prime example of this is the famous Rambo or Rocky, the good old Sylvester Stallone.

While Mr. Stallone certainly looks good for his age, there is also something off about him due to his constant usage of botox. This problem plagues numerous celebrities who rely too heavily on this 'miracle drug'. While looking young and attractive is important in that line of work, there are limits to just how far you should go with it.

When botox goes awry and leaves you with either a detrimental effect or simply not looking your best, it can be disheartening to say the least. You go in expecting to look young again and come out looking like your face has been frozen, or worse. It can be a scary thought once you stop and actually think about it.

However, like with the Stars and Botox, it is all about moderation. Botox has been proven to be quite safe and severe side effects are exceptionally rare. So if you are looking to get rid of those wrinkles and crows feet, this is a great way to do it. Just do not become addicted to your botox injections otherwise you may end up like some of those frozen-faced stars you see on the red carpet, and that is not an appealing thought.
