Earache Home Remedies

An earache is often (though not always) preceded by a cold and can be a problem for children and adults alike. Children seem to get them more often, but an earache can strike anyone, regardless of their age. What typically happens is that fluid accumulates in the Eustachian tubes, which puts pressure on the eardrum, and it's this pressure that causes the pain. If you have an earache and can't get to a doctor right away, then you may want to try some of these earache home remedies.

Before trying any home remedy it is important to note that you should never stick an object in your ear. Doing so could puncture your eardrum, and that will result in even more pain as well as permanent hearing loss. The following remedies are not meant to be medical advice, so always check with your doctor before trying any of them.

1. A hair dryer set on the lowest temperature setting can gently warm the ear and bring relief in a few minutes. Do not hold too close to your ear, and be sure the fan is set to its minimum speed. You want to warm the ear, but you also want to do it as gently as possible.

2. A heating pad can also be used to warm your ear. Wrap a towel around it first, as you don't want it to have direct contact with your skin, and then place it on the outside of the ear that is giving you the problem. You can use a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel if you don't have a heating pad.

3. Place a few drops of fresh garlic juice (squeezed directly from a clove of garlic) in the problematic ear will serve as a mild antibiotic and often brings relief. Placing a piece of gauze on the outside of the ear will help to trap the juice so it can do a more thorough job. Gently rinse the ear with clean, warm water after five to ten minutes.

4. While everybody is different, some people find they are more susceptible to earaches after eating a lot of dairy products. You can try eliminating all dairy from your diet for a few days to see if that does the trick.

5. A couple drops of warmed olive or mineral oil put in the ear can bring relief. However, be very careful that you don't overheat the oil. It should never be warmer than body temperature; otherwise you run the risk of burning your ear which will only add insult to injury.

If the pain doesn't go away after trying these earache home remedies, then you should visit your doctor. It's possible that you have an ear infection which may require a course of prescription antibiotics. An earache isn't any fun, and if left untreated can lead to more serious problems. In other words, it's not something you should ignore (if that's even possible).

Caring For Your Contacts

Its no secret that contact lenses are the best alternative to glasses. They are easy to use, although they must be taken care of. There are several ways that you can take care of your contact lenses, which will ensure that they stay healthy and remain comfortable when you wear them.

Before you put your contacts in, the first thing to do is wash your hands with soap and warm water. You should also make sure that you dry your hands thoroughly with a clean towel, as soap residue or chemicals may get on the contacts, causing them to be very uncomfortable and possibly even burning your eyes when you put them in.

If you can't seem to get your contacts to go in your eyes, you shouldn't force them. Instead, you should put some solution in the palm of your hand, and gently rub the contact in the solution. Then, before you put it back in your eyes, you should put some solution on it and it should go in your eye without any complications.

Anytime you are not wearing your contact lenses, you should always soak them in fresh solution. This is especially important overnight, as the solution gets the protein out of your contacts. If you don't soak them in solution, they can end up causing damage to your eyes.

If you experience any type of burning with your contacts after soaking them in solution, you should try another solution. Depending on your eyes, some types of solutions may leave you with a burning sensation. This is very common, although switching to a different contact lens solution will more than likely stop the burning or irritation.

Throughout the day, you may need to use rewetting drops or saline solution to keep moisture in your eyes. Sometimes, contacts can dry your eyes out, and make them feel very uncomfortable. When you put some drops or saline in them though, the dryness will normally subside. You should always keep some rewetting drops or saline with you at times, just in case your eyes start to dry out.

If you are new to contact lenses, you should ask your optician or staff any questions that come to mind. Normally, after you have been fitted for contact lenses, the optician and his staff will show you how to put your contacts in, how to care for them, and anything else you need to know about them.

Taking care of your contact isn't hard to do. As long as you take care of them, they will take care of you. You should always change them out with a fresh pair as recommended, to prevent any type of damage to your eyes. Contact lenses are a great alternative to glasses – although they need to be cared for in the proper ways.

Eyebrow Shaping Classes

There are several effective techniques you can use to trim and shape up eyebrows. Many of them will be learned while at cosmetology school or by taking some eyebrow shaping classes. As with most things, there is a bit of an art and a science to getting eyebrows that are the right shape.

Since everyone's face is a slightly different shape, to get the best overall look, the shape and arch of your eyebrows should be taken into consideration in the context of your face.

What do I mean by that? Simple, before you go running off in search of eyebrow shaping classes remember that you don't necessarily want your eyebrows to have the same arch and be the exact same thickness as a super model.

Your eyebrows probably already accentuate the shape of your face and you probably only need to make them a little neater by plucking or waxing any areas that are getting a little bit overgrown.

If you just have to make dramatic changes to your brows you may want to allow a professional the opportunity. After all, they have already been to class and they should know what they are doing.

Just to have a little eyebrow waxing or plucking done, it shouldn't be very expensive either. Many hairdressers can wax your eyebrows right before or after they cut and style your hair. Having it done in the same trip saves time and usually, money.

Most of the time, you will only pay a fraction of the amount you spent on getting your hair cut so you can probably afford to have a professional help spruce up your eyebrows.

If you do want to learn how to do it yourself there are many places you can go to learn. As I said above, if you want to make a career out of it, consider finding a cosmetology school in your area.

You may also be able to just take individual classes that only cover one thing, such as doing eyebrows, at your local community college.

You can always head online too. Again, if you just want to know how to do it but aren't really interested in making it your career you can probably just go online and look for videos, blogs or articles that will walk you through the process.

If you want to learn to sculpt your eyebrows yourself, here are some tips:

1. First of all make sure you remove your makeup and wash your face to rid your eyebrow area of all lotions, creams and oily substances.

2. Next get a good quality magnifying mirror and find a well lit spot in your home.

3. Take a small comb and comb your eyebrows up towards your hairline. If you see any really long eyebrow hairs just grab a sharp pair of scissors and carefully trim the hair to a little shorter length. Don't get too carried away, you don't want spiky eyebrows!

4. Slowly and carefully pluck or wax any overgrowth of hair. Any hair that is on the sides or top of the main line of your brow should be removed.

While this article was not the same as taking eyebrow shaping classes, it might give you a little help getting started.

Oxygen Elements Plus (only this nutrient is discussed in this article)

The skin needs plenty of oxygen to keep it clean and free of bacteria. Using a product like Oxygen Elements Plus gives you at least 10-20% more oxygen in your blood.

Here's where to get Oxygen Plus.

The plus in this product are added minerals and other nutrients.

Increasing the oxygen in your blood is now a necessity for normal health. Your body needs more oxygen than you presently get from the air you breathe so that your body functions normally.

The amount of oxygen you have in your body that is available to you cells is dependent on many things such as,

* Acid in the body

* Nonfood waste products

* Pathogens in the body

These three items, acid, nonfoods, and pathogens use up your oxygen. The oxygen that is left over is then used for your body's needs.

So the more you have of these three items, the less oxygen you will have to supply your body's needs. This results in more toxins in the blood and can prevent you having an acne free face.

A Look At Gingivitis And Periodontal Disease

Gum disease, also known as gingivitis, is a serious condition that will normally result in tooth loss. With adults, gingivitis and periodontal disease are the most common forms of gum disease. To prevent both types of gum disease, you should always brush your teeth and remove as much plaque as possible. If you allow the plaque to build up, gum disease will normally be the result.

Gingivitis is known as inflammation in the tissues of the gums. If plaque and tartar build up along the gum line, the gums will eventually get swollen and irritated. Over time, the gums will get very tender and start to appear puffy. When you brush your teeth, you'll notice that your gums have become very sore and they will start to bleed with little to no pressure. If you notice blood when brushing, chances are you have gingivitis. Anytime you brush your teeth or floss, there shouldn't be any sign of blood.

During this stage of gingivitis, there is no loss of bone structure. You can help to prevent gingivitis though, through flossing and brushing a few times a day. If you have gingivitis and you don't do something about it, it could lead to periodontal disease. Those who don't treat gingivitis or those who keep poor oral hygiene habits, will normally end up with periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease is a condition in which the bone and surrounding structures are destroyed. Even though this form of mouth disease cannot be reversed, you can put a stop to it's progression by going to your dentist on a regular basis and brushing your teeth a few times day. Periodontal disease is a serious condition, which is why you should always try to stop the progression or even better – never let your gums and teeth get this bad.

If you don't do something about the progression of periodontal disease, the condition will continue to get worse. During the early stages of the disease, you'll notice that your gums appear to be bright red, and very sore. This is due to the plaque building up below the gum line. When left untreated, the plaque and tartar that is below the gums will continue to eat at the teeth.

Keep in mind that plaque doesn't need to be visible or detected in order for periodontal disease to be diagnosed. To determine if you have periodontal disease, you'll need to have your dentist examine you on a regular basis. Your dentist can perform tests on your gums and your teeth, to determine if you have it. If you do have periodontal disease, your dentist can tell you how to stop the progression and prevent things from getting any worse than they already are.

To be on the safe side and protect your teeth and your gums, you should always go to the dentist for your regular checkups and cleaning. If you catch it in time, your dentist will be able to help you treat the earlier stages of gum disease. You don't want to wait until it is too late, as the more advanced stages of gum disease can completely destroy your teeth and gums – and there will be little to nothing that you can do about it.

Bifocal Contact Lenses

For a majority of us, presbyopia is something we have to live with. In definition, presbyopia is the lack of focusing on things in close range. The cause for this, is the lens in our eyes becoming less and less flexible as we grow older. The bad part is, most of us will need some type of corrective lenses, such as contact lenses or glasses and possibly even bifocals at some point in our lives as this condition gets worse.

Up until recently, those who wore bifocals had very limited options when they chose their corrective lenses. Years ago, glasses that contained bifocal lenses were just about the only option available. Over the years, no-line lenses were created, and glasses became a bit more attractive. This was a very definitive time for bifocal correction lenses, as they looked a lot better than they ever did in the past – eliminating the bulky and unattractive appearance they were well known for.

Now days, you can find many different types of bifocal contact lenses on the market. They are gaining in popularity, as they give those who wear bifocal glasses a very attractive alternative to wearing bulky glasses. They are very affordable as well – which makes them a more popular choice in the world of corrective lenses.

What many may not realize, is the fact that bifocal contacts are very similar to glass lenses in the way they work. With glass lenses, each separate lens provides a range of focus adjustments, one for distance and another for being close up on something. With bifocal contact lenses, both of the adjustments are included. There are different manufacturers that produce different types of bifocal contact lenses, meaning that it may take you a bit of research and experimenting to find which type works the best for you.

Some lenses however, are made with a unique design, known as concentric. Similar to concentric circles, there are two adjustments – one in the middle the other around the outside. These two adjustments in the contact lens are very distinct, with a sharp line between them. Even though they may sound hard to use, most people find that they are easy use with a little bit of practice.

One type of bifocal lens is the aspheric lens, which have a more gradual change of focus. Both power are in the central area of the pupil, and similar to the concentric lens, your eye will immediately adjust to these lenses and decide on the focus that is best to use.

When it comes to bifocal contact lenses, you should always ask your optician what he thinks is best for your eyes. If you meet the right criteria, chances are you'll be prescribed bifocal contact lenses. If you wear bifocal glasses, you may find these contacts to be the perfect alternative. You can get bifocal lenses in extended wear, daily disposable, or even conventional – which is great for anyone who likes plenty of choices. With a lot to choose from and a lot to offer – bifocal contact lenses are the ideal alternative for anyone who needs bifocal correction lenses.

Learn Your Teeth Whitening Options: From Professional Services To DIY Kits

So you have a low self-esteem right now no thanks to yellowish set of teeth. That's tough, especially if you are the kind of person who puts a premium on the way you look and the way people look at you. But this should not be the end of the world for you. There are answers. And the answers to your problems are teeth whitening solutions that come in many forms and prices. We consider all these options available for you, and we check their differences and the benefits that can be delivered to you.

Options offered in supermarket and drugstores

For those who want to take care of the problem themselves, the products offered at supermarkets and drugstores are the solutions. These products that are available here will often contain lesser amount of whitening agents. Or the concentration of hydrogen peroxide for these products is less than what the professionals use. In many counts, the concentration of the peroxide for these products varies from 3 to 6 percent. For this reason, the efficacy and the reliability can be questioned depending on the actual product. For this set of bleaching agents, the usual recommendation is to use twice daily and the waiting time can reach two weeks before the effects can be realized. In terms of price, expect to pay $3 to $10 for teeth whitening toothpastes. And for other bleaching formulations, some over the counter products can fetch around $30.

Take home bleaching agents (Professional Strength)

Another option is to consider the professional strength bleach as recommended by many dentists. This option can come in two variants, the one with carbamide peroxide or the one with hydrogen peroxide. The bleaching formulation products will often come complete with the custom-fitted tray so that will be used by the dentist to get an impression of the teeth of the person. When this treatment option is considered, the treatment may be performed for as short as 30 minutes to as long as 8 hours. And what is the cost of this whitening solution? Expect to pay from $300 to $600 and this will include all the bleaching materials.

What about laser whitening

Laser whitening is done on the office or the clinic of the attending dentist. And in order to get the results, you may need to have one to four treatments. For this approach, gels are used and these gels do contain some peroxide-based formulations. And the use of the gels is complemented through the use of the lasers to facilitate the whitening process. You can consider this option as one of the most expensive solutions towards white teeth. You will need to have at most four treatments to get the results that you want, and each treatment will cost you at least $600.

Of all these options available, what could be best for your needs? In the end, the budget and your convenience will serve as the two primary factors in shopping for teeth whitening solutions. If budget is not an issue, then you can always go for the professionally-provided services.

A Look At Flossing

Along with brushing your teeth, you should also be flossing on a daily basis. Flossing will remove plaque and debris in areas that your toothbrush isn't able to reach. A buildup of plaque can lead to gum disease or tooth decay, which is why flossing is very important. If you floss immediately after brushing, you'll notice that your gums and teeth will be much healthier.

When you look at dental floss, you'll notice there are two types – nylon and single filament. You can get nylon either waxed or un-waxed, in several different flavors. Nylon floss is made up of several strands of nylon material, meaning that it can shred, tear, or snag between the teeth if it gets caught on sharp teeth. Even though the single filament floss is more expensive than nylon, it will slide easily between teeth, even tight areas and spaces. Unlike nylon, single filament is impossible to shred or tear.

No matter which type of floss you choose, as long you floss regularly, it will remove debris from your teeth and gums. If you've never tried flossing before, you will probably be amazed at just how much debris and food particles it can remove. Flossing is recommended by dentists everywhere, as it can reach places that even the smallest of toothbrushes can't. Food and debris will build up between your teeth, which makes dental flossing very important.

The main problem many people have against flossing is the fact that it can result in bleeding of the gums. Anytime you floss and get between your teeth and around your gums, the floss will rub against your gums, resulting in bleeding. Many people take this the wrong way, and immediately stop flossing, usually for good. Bleeding is very common, and should be expected with flossing.

When you brush your teeth, you miss a lot of food particles and debris that continues to build up in your mouth. No toothbrush is designed to get every area of your mouth, as all of them miss hard to reach places. With the areas missed by the toothbrush, the debris and plaque will continue to build up until they eventually result in a cavity or decay. To get this debris and plaque before it builds up into something more serious, you'll need to floss.

If you've been afraid to try flossing due to the bleeding, you should really get over that fear and floss after you brush. To keep your teeth and gums healthy, you'll to brush and floss your teeth. Regular checkups with your dentist will help as well, although it is up to you to continue your regular maintenance at home with flossing and brushing. If you floss on a daily basis – you'll quickly realize just how clean your teeth and gums will be.

Acne – How The Acne Scars Are Treated?

Acne scars leave their mark not only on the skin but also on the sufferers psyche. With rapid developments in dermatology, treating acne scars is becoming easier. Please consult your dermatologist about the best treatment for your acne scars. The choice will depend upon your medical history, the type of scar and the kinds of treatments available for that type of scarring. Some treatments are cheaper than others but may not give perfect results. The choice therefore also depends upon your budget and the kind of results you desire.

Let us look at the kinds of treatments available for acne scars.

Dermabrasion

This is considered one of the most effective treatments for acne scars. In this procedure the doctor uses a local anesthetic or freezes the skin and then uses a high-speed rotary abrader to remove unwanted surface skin. As the skin heals, it shows a brighter appearance. This procedure may remove superficial scars altogether and reduces deeper scars.

Chemical Peeling

Depending on the scar, your doctor will apply a mild chemical peel on the affected skin. This slowly peels away the old skin and brings in fresh skin. Mild scars can be treated with chemical peels.

Laser Therapy

Lasers of different types are used by the doctor to give a new shape to the scarred skin by recontouring the scars. The high burst of laser may leave the skin red for sometime.

Soft Tissue Filling

Collagen that may be bovine in source or patients own may be injected below the scar to lift the skin and give a smooth appearance. As the injected collagen gets absorbed in the body over a period, further treatments may be needed after about six months.
Similarly fat may be injected below deep scars for giving a lift to the skin. Similar to collagen filling, fat injections may need to be repeated after some months. Your doctor will advise you about that.

Skin surgery

Skin may have to be surgically corrected with grafting or other procedures to remove some scars.

Microdermabrasion

For people who have the tendency to form keloids, no surgical method can be used. If one can develop keloid with acne injury, more keloids will be formed by further surgery. steroid injections may be used to treat keloids. In some cases topical retinoic acid is applied directly on the keloids.

Discount Dehumidifiers

Discount dehumidifiers are all over the place on the internet. All you have to do is do a search for them and you will be inundated with sites that offer sometimes substantial discounts on all different brands and models.

Budgets are tight all around and it makes so much sense to try to save money. That is probably one reason why you are looking into discount dehumidifiers, to save some money on your air conditioning bill.

I think we all agree that humidity is very uncomfortable and sticky. But did you know that it is also a breeding ground for dust mites, mold, and mildew?. Allergens like these can make allergy sufferers absolutely miserable. It is bad enough outside, why not do something to give yourself some relief inside your home?

A dehumidifier can help with these allergy symptoms and make you feel more comfortable all the way a round.

The benefits of dehumidifying your home goes a lot farther than allergy relief, however. Decreasing the amount of moisture in your home will also save on costly repairs. If you have blinds or drapes over your windows you can probably see some condensation on the window pane.

This means that the humidity in your home is too high and you need a dehumidifier to control it. If this condensation is allowed to stay there, if your windows are made of wood, the wood will eventually rot and you will have to replace your windows probably years sooner than you normally would.

If you run a dehumidifier in your home you should keep the level of humidity about 35%-50%. This will not only save you from allergens but it will also save you from those costly repair or replacement bills.

Some of the humidity in your house does come in from outside every time someone opens a door or window, but the majority of the humidity in your house comes just from everyday living. Every time someone takes a shower, or you cook dinner, or dry clothes in your dryer you are putting a lot of moisture in the air.

Proper ventilation will help like turning on the exhaust fan when you shower, and running the one on the stove if it is vented outside, mine isn't so when the fan is running it vents it all right back into the house, not cool. Make sure your dryer is properly vented to the outside of your house.

Another huge culprit for holding the humidity inside your home is your carpet. This is probably the place where most of the dust mites hang out, too. The carpet fibers themselves could be making all your allergy symptoms worse as well.

Go check out some nice laminate flooring and either put it in yourself or hire someone to do it for you. Your allergy symptoms may not disappear completely but you should notice some relief. All this plus finding a decent discount dehumidifier will help decrease the level of humidity in your home.
